The Selby

I've been meaning to post about The Selby for a while now. Todd selby takes incredible photos of artists, designers and creative personalities in their homes and studios and then posts them on his recently launched website. I love seeing creatives in their natural habitat. My favorite are Mike Gabel and Jennifer Earle, aka Duotard, who are amazing artists and performers. The Selby even made of video of the two.

shit's popping up everywhere. apparently a special pet store (and charcoal grill) just popped up at 89 south 7th ave., viewable day and night starting NOW! until october 31.

all courtesy of a little known artist you've probably never heard of, no really, don't bother guessing, you'll never get it. he's pretty obscure. goes by a name that rhymes with shmanksy. anyway, hot damn it looks cool. i wanna go right now. anyone still up?

untethered :
a sculpture garden of readymades

September 25 - October 25, 2008
Opening: Thurs., Sept. 25, 6PM
540 W. 21st St.
FREE

Untethered is a sculpture garden of everyday objects deprogrammed of their original function, embedded with new intelligence, and transformed into surrealist and surprising readymades, including a photocopier that reads the night sky; a PDA turned guitar; and a piano that plays the Internet. The exhibition features pieces by 15 artists working at the intersection of art and technology, including current and former Eyebeam residents and fellows, as well as leading international artists.

(gothamist says everyone's talking about it.)

Never Too Much Iceland

Galerie Adler will host an opening reception for Sigga Bjorg Sigurðardóttir on September 6, from 6-9. Her drawings kind of remind me of Tim Burton and Gorey.
